In consideration of the discovery of anesthesia by dentists, the continuing contribution to the art and science of anesthesia by dentists, and the continuing requirements for and provision of anesthesia care by dentists, this Society has established as its purpose to support and encourage the clinical practice of anesthesia by dentists, and to promote the acquisition and dissemination of scientific knowledge associated therewith. Therefore, the goals of this Society shall be: to make available to dental patients the full spectrum of anesthesia care; to train dentists in the full spectrum of anesthesia care; the development and support of a recognized specialty of anesthesiology in the dental profession; and the establishment of an anesthesiology department in dental schools.
The CAPD/ACDP is the recognized national voice of pediatric dentistry. CAPD/ACDP represents its specialist practitioners and advocates for and promotes optimal oral health for infants, children, adolescents and persons with special health care needs.
The Academy as the national voice of periodontists, supports success of its members, promotes excellence in the practice of periodontics and in partnership advances the periodontal health of the public as an integral part of optimal oral and general health.
